Hold on!

Whoa! Don't even think about deleting me for being inactive. I'll write my Congressman! I'll strike!

Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve is always a great time to be a Newsie. People are usually pretty generous with their tips, we've got the extra cash from the Christmas concert, and the Wayne Foundation comes through with warm scarves and gloves and sometimes socks, not to mention a nice dinner on Christmas day.

This year, though, Christmas Eve is special for a whole different reason. We're celebrating Jack's wedding with a huge party at Bruce Wayne's penthouse, and we'll be dancing and drinking well into Christmas.

I can't say how happy a time this is, because it just seems corny to try. But it's somethin' for one of our own to have made good like this. Really somethin'.

Sherlock Holmes movies

I can watch an old Sherlock Holmes movie anytime. I love the corny guy who plays Watson in the classics. I know he's more bumbling than the doctor was supposed to be, but he's just such a character.

Nigel Bruce. That was the actor's name.

Basil Rathbone was a classic Holmes. But there's been a lot of great versions.

I never get tired of it.

And since the really old movies are in black and white, it doesn't matter that the TV in the newsie hotel sucks.

ETA: So, Holmes just got some nice cannabis to make him more susceptible to hypnosis, and in the last movie Dr. Moriarity made a remark about Holmes always goin' for the needle. Even back in the 40s they couldn't ignore Holmes' drug use.

Sal Maroni

So a lot of folks think it's not fair that Sal Maroni survived all the mayhem that happened when the Batman supposedly went berserk lookin' for the Joker, when Sal's driver died and Harvey Dent died. Sal seems to have nine lives, that guy.

But I think it's a good thing that ole Sal made it through. There's enough chaos around Gotham City without having all the criminal operations up for grabs.

And Sal has definitely been reborn, so to speak. Walkin' out of that limo alive gave him a new lease on life. He's actually doin' some of the stuff he pretended to do in the past, supporting the family charities and neighborhood organizations.

Sure, I don't have any illusions about Sal. But I always figured someday when I was too old to be a newsie, I'd probably end up workin' for the guy. And I still think that, even though it kills Jack. What's worse? The evil you know or the one you don't? I've got a bigger problem with the crooked cops and kooks like the Joker than the established crime families.

Y'know what? This would make a good drabble subject for the latest challenge at gotham_newsies!

Managed to get my journal started. No user pics yet, but you can't have everything!

Yeah, I like the style and I got the links up and all that stuff.

Now I just gotta use the thing.
